Peter Sagan 2nd in the
final Tour of Oman stageAfter the Montréal race
Rober
Gesink (Rabobank) attacked in the final lap. A chase group (including
Peter) was created and was losing about 10 seconds. In the final sprint Peter
defeated all the others and took a final second place. That is just
another great achievment for the young cyclist from Žilina in the world of
professional cycling.

One-day
race in Montreal with a silver glow
First two thirds of the race were affected by a few breaks. The first one included Seeldraeyes (Quick Step), Izagirre (Euskaltel), Madrazo (Caisse) and Tjallingii (Rabobank). The next one was created by a bit stronger riders - Horner, Machado (RadioShack), Oss (Liquigas), Gavazzi (Lampre) a Anker Sorensen (Saxo Bank). However, those were caught as well.
In the final lap Robert Gesink (6th at the Tour de France) attacked and managed to hold off a chase group by just a few seconds till the end. The chase group included our talented Peter Sagan, Hesjedal, Zubeldia, Monfort and Sanchez. The mentioned riders could only fight for a second place. For the best Canadian cyclist Hesjedal it was not good enough, therefore, our Peťo outsprinted him.
That was the best result in one-day races for Peter. He has previously finished second in Philadelphia and Giro del Veneto, but today he was competing with some of the best riders not taking part in the Vuelta. The race was a ProTour event and than meant higher prestige. The cycling revelation of 2010 added 60 points to UCI ranking and moved up a few places in this not very just ranking.
Peter Sagan on the race:
„In the first half I felt bad. I had stomach problems and heavy legs again. I wanted to withdraw but people from our team car told me to try medical help. My body started to feel better as I took some pills. In the final lap Gesink managed to breakaway. I was in a chase group but we were not able to catch him. Anyway, had someone told me I would finish second today, I would not have believed him.“
